Just in case you’re wondering, I have a few new adventures that I’m preparing to share with you. In the meantime, enjoy these few photos from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. These are a few of the more interesting planes at the candidate for America’s dullest international airport.
The Alaska Airlines Salmon-Thirty-Salmon wasn’t an interesting plane aside from its paintjob – and the political posturing that ensued from its creation. The half-million-dollar paintjob was funded by the federal government. Check here to read more sniveling and see the infighting spurred by the state of Alaska’s attempt to pimp its salmon industry.
Without further ado and seriousness, onto the photos!

Did you take these photos Justin? If so where were you at for to get such good shots?
I did indeed. That’s from the top of the Terminal 4 parking structure. I was using my Pentax DSLR and a fully manual 200-millimeter Asahi prime. I pretty much had to set my focus for the background, choose a fast shutter speed and keep the f stop pretty low.
It’s a pain to shoot that way, but that’s a nice piece of glass (old Japanese stuff from the Disco Era!), so I get some good images. Besides, the biggest auto/zoom lens I have is a 55-millimeter. If you’re planning to try this, my 200 mil was really a bit underpowered. I’d say 300 would get the job done better.
Hmm…not a bad idea and looks like a good location. I think I will have to give this a try one weekend. Thanks for the tips and the idea!
Hey, you might also think about going to those little hills right by Curry & Mill. Great place to get shots. FYI, the British Airways 747 usually comes sometime between 5 and 6. You can use Flighttracker.com to nail it down a bit better.
