Can I Sell You a Gold Mine?

IMGP4729 Can I Sell You a Gold Mine?
Not the actual mine for sale, but you get the idea!

Sometimes, interesting stories get buried on The Arizona Republic Web site – after all, there’s gossipy celebrity stories to tell. Who has room for a story about someone selling a gold mine in Scottsdale?

Appropriately enough, it was the Arizona Geology blog that dug it out of the Republic’s Web site for my viewing pleasure. For the low, low price of $43 million, you can get a 117-acre plot where you just might find some gold ore. Get your pickaxe out! Of course, if you’ve got the ducats to buy the property in the first place, you probably don’t care much about the gold. I think that, since it has a good number of adits and shafts, it’s a perfect place for a madman like Dr. Evil to hole up. It has the makings of a nearly perfect underground lair, and seems to be lacking only some volcanic activity.

Definitely check out the link, and be sure to watch the video. You can also read the Republic story … just try not to get too frustrated that an experienced business reporter for a huge newspaper who’s covered Arizona practically since territorial days doesn’t know that a shaft is vertical and an adit is horizontal. Maybe I should hit the Associated Press up to put that in the style manual …
