Air New Zealand is one of those airlines that puts its nation’s best foot forward. Step onto one of its planes, and you pretty well have an idea of Kiwi culture at the height of its friendliness.
And it flies to some of the most scenic destinations. Just look at this backdrop of an Air New Zealand 737 coming in for a landing in Queenstown. That’s the mountain range known as The Remarkables. In the Lord of the Rings series, The Remarkables starred as the slopes of Dimrill Dale. Apparently, that was on the way to the Moria Mines. Yes, there are organized tours from Queenstown that will take Lord of the Rings superfans to their favorite spots from the films. So what really happens in this slice of Middle Earth? Boating, hiking, fishing, bungee jumping, paragliding, mountain biking, street luge and just about every other extreme sport that can bump your adrenaline to huge levels. The flight it on Air New Zealand won’t be quite so exciting … but you’ll get an eyeful of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables.
As for this Air New Zealand 737 – I harbor a slight grudge against it since it flew me back to Auckland from The Remarkables and all the incredible scenery of Queenstown. From there, away from Middle Earth and back home.
