And there’s no better proof of this than Air New Zealand’s online FAQ list. It’s in a pop-up window, so I can’t give you a direct link. But start at the Air New Zealand home page and click the Help button at the top. When the pop-up does its thing, select Frequently Asked Questions.

All customers traveling on Air New Zealand services are required to maintain a tidy standard of dress. For health and safety reasons, travelers are required to wear footwear. Infants and young children who can be carried may travel barefoot.
It’s awesome that this is #5 on the list. It shows it’s a common question. If you don’t believe me, visit New Zealand. Take a close look at people’s feet. You’ll see many a bare foot, even in the middle of Auckland or Wellington.
If you do make that visit, you won’t need to pack a coat and tie, obviously.
I’ll also add that, when flying am Air New Zealand Bombardier turboprop from Wellington to Nelson, we boarded without going through a magnatometer and without removing our shoes. How do you like [...]
