When I first heard about The Discovery Channel show “Dual Survival,” I was intrigued. And I haven’t been disappointed with its two stars, the situations or the smart advice they offer in each episode.

During a recent visit to my favorite coffee shop, I got everyone into a discussion about the Discovery Channel show Dual Survival. Not only is Cody Lundin, one of the stars, an Arizona guy – but the concept of living by your wits is an interesting concept in this high-tech age.
One of the guys made a really interesting statement.
“If there’s ever an apocalypse, I’m getting my friends together and heading to the dump!” he said.
He argued that your average dump has everything needed to rebuild a society. It might not smell good, but it has a great deal of raw materials.
It sounds like Cody and Dave have taken that notion to heart in the latest episode of Dual Survival, which airs on Aug. 13. Well, they don’t really head to the dump – but they apparently turn to trash for some survival tools.

Okay, the dudes at The Discovery Channel are really starting to grab my interest.
First, they concoct the awesome new show Dual Survival, which I’ve written about here several times. Now they’re taking the collision between reality TV and survival preparation even further with a new 10-episode season of a show called The Colony.
Here’s the premise: It shows what people would do in the wake of a global catastrophe – if they survived the initial calamity. Tomorrow is the first episode of the new season. This show, which sounds really riveting, somehow escaped my attention in its first season. I guess this will cue a scramble for me to find the first season online so I can give it a look.
This new season will take a new group of people and shove them into a p0st-doomsday scenario. They’ll have to “rebuild in a world without electricity, running water, government or outside communication,” according to The Discovery Channel’s fine PR staff. My source hinted that a biological disaster is the crux for this season – and that viewers will get commentary from experts in homeland security, engineering, psychology and medicine.
My biggest question? Where and when can I audition for Season 3???
Here are some previews to get you warmed up for Tuesday’s debut at 10 p.m.
