My Take on Flying IcelandAir

Airlines based in the United States coud learn a a few things from IcelandAir. It’s not perfect, but it’s a far better flying experience than what U.S. travelers typically endure.

IcelandAir About to Start Codeshare Agreement

One of the nice things about international travel is the pile of frequent flier miles you earn on the flights. I missed out on that perk when I flew to Iceland in June – IcelandAir has no codeshare agreements. That will change in fall, but don’t get too excited just yet. Here’s why.

Banned from Flying or Not?

You have to be careful when getting ready for commercial air travel. Tedious and conflicting TSA regulations and airline policies make it hard to get straight answers on what you can pack. My question on military Meals, Ready to Eat packages is a perfect example.

6 Things You Need to Know About Travel Insurance

Eyjafjallajokull’s eruption is a case study in how travel insurance
could help stranded travelers. Photo by Henrik Thorburn

The skies over Europe are starting to open again after a dismal week courtesy of the erupting volcano in Iceland under Eyjafjallajokull (adding “glacier” after that is redundant, by the way, since “jokull” is Icelandic for glacier).
But the interruption [...]

Chipping Away at Iceland Travel Plans

Planning a trip to Iceland is really hard. Only one airline flies there, which is a major bummer (7-hour flights that don’t include meals … really?). It’s hard to get around, and prices are steep despite the favorable exchange rate. But I really want to hike Landmannalauger, tour the Skaftatell glacier and check out Dimmuborgir. [...]

Four Ways to Better Endure the Airport

“Accidental” Flight on United a Pleasant Surprise

If you’re flying out of Phoenix, your two biggest airline choices are Southwest Airlines or US Airways.
You know Southwest: It’s a perky, courteous brand with few frills – but not a lot of hidden costs. US Airways gets unfairly demonized. I’ve flown it many times, and had only one hiccup over the years. It’s not [...]

Photo Brings Back Some Great Flying Memories

Check out this photo! So you might be wondering why I’m showing you a picture of some skinny-legged kid. Well, that kid grew up to be none other than Wandering Justin! Pretty crazy, eh?
So aside from that being a much-younger me, there’s a bigger point here. Or really, several!
1. I’m having my photo taken with [...]
